Dear Sales Team,
I hope you are well,
My name is Carolina, I’m part of the sales and projects team here at Zelim. Right now we are looking to get a mobile workstation / DIT for use on vessels, ports, and dockside environments. We are therefore looking for a robust mobile workstation/cart system that can support high-end computing equipment, external sensors, and mounted cameras. And we were wondering if we could get a custom design from you?
We expect to commission two identical rigs and would value your input on the best mechanical design and component selection.
Project overview
The rig will support a high-performance computing system and multiple sensors, including cameras and an antenna array. It needs to function as a portable demonstration platform that can be safely moved around docks and vessel decks while maintaining stable sensor mounting.
Key requirements
Load capacity
The cart should support approximately 40–50 kg total payload, including:
Desktop workstation (~20 kg)
NVIDIA Jetson computer
PoE switch and injector
SDR system (KrakenSDR)
GNSS receiver
Cameras, cabling, and supporting electronics
Mobility
Large pneumatic tyres suitable for uneven dockside terrain and vessel decks
Reliable wheel locks / braking system
Good manoeuvrability in tight spaces
Camera mounting
A rigid vertical mast or mounting structure capable of supporting:
A fall-detection camera positioned close to deck level
A PTZ camera mounted directly above it on the same vertical plane
Approximate vertical separation of 10 cm to 1 m
Antenna mounting
A removable 5-antenna planar array with an approximate 50 cm radius
Mounted above the workstation
Ideally with secure storage space within the rig for the antenna array when transporting
Electronics housing
Mounting space for an IP65-rated enclosure (similar in size to a Pelican 1600 case)
Used to house the workstation and SDR equipment
Preferably with ventilation or thermal management
Stability
Stable base design suitable for outdoor use
Optional counterweighting, ballast, or stabilising legs if required
Modularity
The rig should allow integration of:
Monitor arms
Camera mounts
Shelving or mounting plates
Cable management
Power distribution
Transport
Ideally modular or partially collapsible
Must be practical to ship between the UK and the US
Information requested
If this is within your capabilities, we would appreciate:
An outline of how you would approach the design
An indicative cost estimate for design and fabrication
Lead times for design and manufacture
Any similar projects you have delivered
Whether you can support small production runs (2–3 units)
We are happy to share concept sketches, and equipment dimensions, and we would welcome a short call to discuss the project in more detail.
Thank you for your time, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Carolina De Alba
